This project aims to research on the conservation of architectural timbre
Preservation and Protection • Preservation Cambridge Dictionary— the act of keeping something the same or of preventing it from being damaged • ProtectionCambridge Dictionary–to keep someone or something safe from injury, damage, or loss:
Uses of Wood • E.g. • Teak– Commonly found in neighboring countries like Indonesia; termite resistant • Redwood– Used for bridal furniture (Peranakan) • Chengai Wood– Used for flooring
One also needs to consider the effects of weather on wood so as to ensure that the wood is well protected against • When one preserves architectural timbre, one needs to consider its uses and its cultural uses, lest the culture essence of it is lost.
Research Questions • What are the traits of wood ? • How does it contribute to its usage? • How has wood been imbued into the various cultures? In particular, Baba chinese culture? Malay Culture
Research Questions • What are the natural elements that wood are pit against? • E.g.Relative Humidity • E.g. Rainfall • What are the effects of the environment on architectural timbre? • E.g. Artifacts
Research Questions • How does one protect wood against animals such as termites, rodents etc. ? • Fumigation? • Arsenic • What were the traditional methods for protecting wood against animals

Limitations • This study researches on the uses of wood in the context of Chinese culture.
Oral History • Conduct an interview with Mr. Wee (former owner of the Baba house) with regards to the uses of wood in the various traditions and cultures of the family • Conduct an interview with Dr. Yeo/People who work with wood
Case Study • A piece of architectural timbre provided by Dr. Yeo • Research conducted on the case study during the June holidays (TBC)
