Writing a Lab Report (components and general format) You can beautify your lab report by adding an applicable picture that relates to the experiment. Page 1: Title Page Title of Lab Your Name Date (due date of the lab) Teacher Class & Period Lab partners • All written text (for the purpose and procedure) should be paraphrased in your own words! • Do NOT write in the 1st or 2nd person! Rather the use 3rd person singular or the passive voice. • Do NOT use any slang! Use proper English grammar • Briefly summarize the steps in the procedure in paragraph form. Purpose: Materials/ Equipment: Procedure: Page 2: Body • Data section: • Provide charts, tables, graphs, and other observations • Always provide a title and a written description for each chart, graph, table, etc… • Calculations: • Show all formulas used • Write out all steps done in determining the value • Label each number with the appropriate units • Put a final box around the determined value Data: Calculations: Title Page 3: Body Description: blah, blah, blah… Chemistryland rules!! • Conclusion: (In paragraph form, 3rd person singular voice) • Make a simple statement on what can be concluded from the lab • Discuss what theory was demonstrated in the experiment • Discuss the sources of error in the lab (usually a minimum of three different sources) • Discussion Questions: • Answer any post-lab questions here after the conclusion Conclusion: Discussion Questions: Page 4: Conclusion 1. 2. 3.
