Hengist and Horsa • Germanic brothers who led the Angle, Saxon and Jutish armies that conquered the first territories of G.B in the 5th Century AD. • -Hengist is a founder of Kingdom of Kent and Horsa was kiled at Aegelsthrep
Celts • Diverse group of tribal societies in Iron Age and Roman-era Europe who spoke Celtic languages. • -The Iron Age Celts lived in England 750 years before Jesus was born. This era ended in AD43 when the Romans invaded Britain. From around 750BC to 12BC, they were the most powerful people in central and northern Europe.
Angles • Came from Denmark • Were just entering the agricultural stage of civilization when they arrived in Britain. • Occupied the central part of Southern Britain and the northern and eastern coasts. • Founded the embryonic kingdoms called “Engla land” from which the name “England”came
Saxon • Warlike people who invaded Roman territory in the second half of the 4th century, during the reigns of the emperors Julian and Valentinian • Occupied all northwest Germany as far east as the Elbe River
Jutes - The Jutes were a Germanic tribe who invaded Britain in the 5th century AD. - Large numbers of Jutes lived in the New Forest in Hampshire and until the 11th century, it was known as Ytene (of the Jutes).
Romans • Romans also conquered England and controlled the Western part of Europe countries. • After 1,2,3 and final invasion, romans finally gained control over southern England, and another 30 years to conquer all of the west country.
Why Britain? • Romans were cross with Britain for helping the Gauls(now called the French) fight against the Roman Julius Caesar. • Britain had many riches: land, slaves, iron, gold and much more • Remained in Britain from 43AD to 410AD before their homes in Italy got attacked.

Vikings • Had a long migration from Scandinavia • Later settled in the Scottish Islands, Iceland and parts of Ireland • Invaded eastern Britain and northwest France and successfully setteled in there.
Danes • In 11th Century, a Danish King ruled England and Norway • Christinanity began to spread across Denmark • Growing rivalry with Sweden and rulers among the North German coast.
Norman Conquest • Originated from the Vikings who got admitted to live in France and converted to Catholicism • By the leadership of Wiliam, Normans attacked England from the Anglo – Saxons (ex. Battle of Hastings)
Wiliam the Conqeror Invaded England and defeated the English King Harold at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. He was a Duke of Normandy untill his death Had a strong army& good stratedy (surprise attack)
Wiliam the Conqueror Built the central white tower in the tower of London which had chapel with Norman style.
