Organization Analysis Project Organizational Communications with Professor Dunn By: Kimberlee Servideo
About the Organization • Stephen Gould is a privately owned industrial packaging and printing sales organization. • Founded in 1939 • Largest privately owned packaging sales organization in the U.S. • Objective: fulfill their client’s aesthetic and functional requirements for packaging, printing, and marketing • Products: presentation kits, multiple use cases, computer software, aerospace equipment
Methodologies • Three interviews: Chris Garvey (Sales Director of the Corporation), DJ (Direct Salesmen), and David (Direct Salesmen) • Four surveys: Chris Garvey, DJ, David, and Julie (administrative assistant)
Feedback • Majority of my findings were similar • Described as exciting, intense, healthy, motivating, high stress, and diverse • No direct boss- self employed • Tension? Absolutely • Co-workers interact 24/7 • Low turnover rate
Feedback • Intimately involved • Mainstream mentality • Work hard, play hard/Tough Guy organization • Positive and laid back • Be involved in day to day operations
Analysis • Longevity • Status- mixed reviews • Positive, blunt environment • Socially attractive • Atmosphere: Versatile/flexible/responsive/assertive • Key to build solidarity relationships • Team player but every man for themselves
My Perspective • Overall positive vibe • Open and free (office space, cubicles) • Uniformity (clothing) • Hands on experience • Mentors • Team building • Success = be dedicated, ambitious, problem solver, and diverse
