The coastal Discovery Centre willprovide a clearly defined entry tothe site. The site is unprotected Destructive human elements are free to move in and out of the site Because the site lacks any formal control, it lacks those rudiments that are required to make it an entity in its own right.
Project One: The aim of my coastal discovery centre was to challenge the idea of ownership with respect to the land, the ocean and the Australian Identity. When considering the site, true ownership of the land or lack there of, was a major inspiration for the design. The wall, stems from the aboriginal form of architecture known as the Yunta. The caterpillar is representative of the European settlers tendency to exploit the land.
The idea of a very open discovery centre. The wall becomes a gathering and socialising focal point. A place to get you’re bearings before you begin to explore and discover. For a while I was taking too much of a literal view of the wall. Here I try to bring out the idea and actually transform it into a building.
The site was delicate, and perhaps only the most experienced designers would attempt to disturb it. The building looks away from the coast and tries to introduce visitors to the inland coastal scenery which can be often overlooked. People know the beach is there already there is not much left for them to discover. Why not show them what’s on the other side of the sand?
The hungry caterpillar devours the land. Who is the caterpillar? Anyone or anything that devastates the natural land.

Metal flashing to stop rain penetration Waterproof sail membrane provides the roof cladding Connection for sails
Game Two: Musical Instrument The powerful breath of a musician. The game calls to anyone in need of meditation.
The precarious nature of the site requires a game with enough resistance to repel the force of gravity.
Project 3: The music room
The original form entirely clad in stainless steel. After some thought, exterior timber cladding is considered more organic and tuned to the timber guts of the Woolstores.
Project 4: The Corponi Project
The complicated process of tectonic resolution in a physical model.
