  4. Questions to be answered • Does the current workforce supply meet today’s demand for services? • Will the expected growth/change in the workforce meet the expected demand for services? • How do we identify shortages today, and where will they be in the future?

  8. Challenges for further work • Expanding data availability beyond physicians • Building data systems to better understand geographic variation • Changes in the nature of medical care, the health system, and health policies will have a significant impact on the workforce planning

Next Steps • Updates of existing reports and consolidation of existing data • Expand existing physician reports • Consolidate existing data and explore private sources of data • Short term studies • Drill down to smaller geographic units for physicians and population needs • Potentially add other provider types. These may be limited to statewide counts • Long term development of data systems and studies • Enhancements to Board surveys • Supply studies, modeling, etc.
