  1. Introduction to the ASK-IT project Ivo Cré - Polis

  2. What is ASK-IT • ASK-IT is a 4-year Integrated Project, started at the end of 2004. • 50 partners currently involved • It aims to develop an ambient intelligence environment for the integration of functions and services for mobility impaired users, enabling the provision of personalised, self-configurable, intuitive and context-related applications and services, while on the move. • ASK-IT focuses on geo-referenced and personalised transport and tourism services. • Emphasis is on seamless service provision, independent on the media, user location (i.e. indoors, outdoors, in a city, during a trip, etc.), user type and residual abilities. UNIACCESS CONFERENCE – 9 November 2006

  3. The problem • Mobility Impaired people have a wide variety of functional impairments, only 2-3 percent of disabled people are wheelchair users. • Any activity limitation that prohibits the free movement of a person can be regarded as a mobility impairment. • MI users are confronted with: • neglect of the "design for all" concept; • inappropriate and/or complex user interfaces, that are physically demanding for such users; • jargon-inhibiting and too-often irrelevant youth-oriented content. • ASK-IT Aim: To support MI users to safely and comfortably plan and execute a trip, being able to use all available infrastructure and services (whether personal or standard) while on the move. UNIACCESS CONFERENCE – 9 November 2006

  4. ASK-IT mobility impaired group • blind/partially sighted people; • deaf and people with hearing problems; • people unable to walk, i.e. wheelchair users; • people with difficulties in walking/bending limbs; • people with medical problems affecting balance and stamina; • people with cognitive impairments and learning difficulties; • people who are illiterate.
