Field Fundraising Webinar Matching Gifts and Volunteer Hours Grant Program Civil Air Patrol - Development Webinar October 9 2019 Kristina E. Jones, CFRE – Chief of Philanthropy
Is This Program Worth Your Time? “Leroy R Grumman Cadet Squadron has been the recipient of IBM grants since 2009. I retired after 36 years and have been submitting my CAP volunteering hours and requests for grants since then. Currently my squadron has received over $10,000 in IBM grants. As a result of these grants and the returns from our contributions to Wreaths Across America, we have become financially independent to the point that we now do not charge any dues (squadron and Group) to our members nor charge new members for all their uniform accessories (all non-sized items) we order for them. In addition, we supply all new members with zip cases, logo pens and pads and logo string backpacks at no charge. “ Respectfully, Lt Col A. E. McLaughlin Jr., CAP Leroy R. Grumman Cadet Squadron – NER-NY-153
What are Matching Gifts? • Corporate matching gifts are a type of philanthropy in which companies financially match donations that their employees make to nonprofit organizations. • When an employee makes a donation, they’ll request the matching gift from their employer, who then makes their own donation. • Some companies also make grants for volunteer hours for employees and retirees. • Companies usually match donations at a 1:1 ratio, but some will match at a 2:1, 3:1, or even a 4:1 ratio.

Your Field Fundraising Resources • If you have questions regarding receipt, check with your Wing Administrators FIRST. If not received, they will contact NHQ on your behalf. • Promote the program/share the link (members, spouses, parents, alumni) • Ask members to update employment data in E-Services. We are looking for ways to send targeted e-mail to promote the program. • Add link to your website • No need to get approval from Wing Commander for this program or for Wings to track as fundraising approval. Progam is managed at NHQ and falls into the same category of reporting as if unit received a check in the mail from a supportive donor. • Contact matchinggifts@gocivilairpatrol.org for questions/assistance in the process.
Lilly Foundation and NESA Scholarships • Here’s a math equation worth checking out: Take one employer contribution, multiply by five Civil Air Patrol members and what do you get?In the case of the Indiana Wing’s Fort Benjamin Harrison Composite Squadron, the answer is five fully paid scholarships to send cadets to CAP’s National Emergency Services Academy for training in the Ground Search and Rescue School. https://www.cap.news/ind-unit-uses-employer-grants-for-nesa-cadet-scholarships/
