  2. Agenda • Overview & Review - Chin • Dinner • Ongoing Efforts - Hurd • Community Conversations - Chin • Learning Outside the Classroom - Ellett • Setting the agenda for AY2000 - Chin

  3. Overview and Review • Where have we been? • Where are we now? • Where are we going?

  4. Three Phases • AY98: Establishing consensus for action • Danger: “one size fits all” v. “free for all” • Opportunity: Identify common themes for a cohesive effort • AY99: Work behind the scenes • Danger: Disintegration with no results • Opportunity: Covering many bases at once • AY2000: Reintegration • Danger: just another set of good ideas “FYI” • Opportunity: influence decision-makers for change

  5. What We Said We’d Do (1/3) • See the diversity and depth of all the efforts across campus. • Make accessible for the whole SU community: • The thinking behind these efforts. • The specific means behind these efforts. • The results of these efforts.

  6. What We Said We’d Do (2/3) • Finished gathering information, giving examples, ready to report what we have found. • “People know this is a complex and process so we have to communicate the complexity or we will not be credible.” • Clarify roles of faculty members and student affairs staff to foster collaboration between them.

  7. What We Said We’d Do (3/3) • Find ways to connect academic affairs and student affairs activities and people. • Faculty have a very limited view of what students do here, what student life is like. • We need to describe the global expectations for assessment.

  8. Summary of AY99 Accomplishments • Ongoing Efforts • Consultation with visible results, web page • Community Conversations • Tolley Dinner • Cavanagh & Chin met with the deans of all colleges and schools with the exception of engineering and UC • Learning Outside the Classroom • Case studies

  9. Looking Ahead to AY2000 Closure
