Objectives The BeacoNetworkProgramme aims to: • nurture the Beacon Spirit among pupils; • develop leadership skills and character; and, • forge lifelong and meaningful relationships among Beacons beyond the formal 6 years of the Beacon Experience.
Roles • P6 – Master Mentor (MM) • P5 – Senior Mentor (SM) • P4 – Junior Mentor (JM) • P3 – Senior Buddy (SB) • P2 – Junior Buddy (JB) • P1 – NewB (New Beacon)
Master Mentors (MM) – P6 • The MM leads the network in their efforts to nurture lifelong relationships down the network line. • The MM conducts activities, maintains contact information and renders guidance to his juniors down the line. • The MM is responsible for developing the SM (P5) to take over his/her role the following year.
Senior Mentors (SM) – P5 • The SM assists the MM in leading and managing the network. • In the MM’s absence, the SM assumes the role of the MM. • The SM is responsible for developing the JM in taking over his/her role the following year.
Junior Mentors (JM) – P4 • The JM assists the SM in managing the network. • The JM assists the SB and JB in looking after the NewBie. • The JM is responsible for developing the SB in taking over his/her role the following year.
Senior Buddy (SB) – P3 • The SB assists the JB in looking after the NewBie. • The SB is responsible for developing the JB in taking over his/her role the following year.
Junior Buddy (JB) – P2 • The JB is directly involved in looking after the NewBie in the first few weeks of the NewBie’s Beacon Experience.
NewBie (New Beacon) – P1 • Learns about the school values and culture from the other five senior pupils in the school
Teacher Mentors • Every network assigned a teacher mentor • Every mentor will be looking after 3-4 networks • Monitor well-being of networks and pupils • Monitor activities
Networking Days • 5-6 networking days per year • Keep in touch with one another • Celebrate birthdays • Play games • Talk about school experience, suggestions for activities, etc. • At the beginning of each year – welcome a New Beacon (P1) • At the end of each year (from 2013) – farewell to a Master Mentor (P6)
Incentives and survey • 223 Networks • Network of the Month • Highlight in school website + vouchers • Top 10 Networks of the year • Sharing to whole school • Vouchers • Best Network of the Year • Movie treat for the network with the teacher mentor • Top 5 Best Portfolios • End-of-programme survey
What you are supposed to do • Know your network number • List will be placed on your class notice board • 1st Networking Day on Tuesday, 3 July • You will be given Network Number cards/slips to help you remember your network numbers • Go to different venues to meet your network members • Each network will have a Network Booklet/File • Exchange information, get to know one another, photographs, basic details e.g. birthdates
