Fulfilling Council Objectives • RAC meetings – held six meetings in 2007 and in 2008 • Public comment and presentations • Agency presentations • Sub-committees participate in public meetings • Provide feedback at RAC meetings • Field Trips • Provide better understanding of issues and concerns • Usually two in the Front Range and one or two in the San Luis Valley
Resolutions • The Front Range RAC has made 12 resolutions over the past two years • Millsap Gulch • This Statewide RAC meeting was initiated by a 2008 resolution by the Front Range RAC
Millsap Gulch FRRAC 06-02 • Mining clean-up • 65-acres area • Three million yards of tailings • Tailings located on public and private lands • Impacts to lands and water – severe during summer months • Project funding challenging
Arkansas River TMP • RAC kept informed on progress and issues along the way • Sub-committee members attended public meetings • RAC passed resolution in support of the final decision
Rio Grande River Corridor Livestock Trespass • Long-term trespass problem preventing reestablishment of riparian vegetation • Existing preventative measures not effective enough • Recognized the BLM needs to take a stronger preventative stance • Resolved that BLM take more aggressive preventative measures
Christo & Jeanne-Claude's "Over The River" • Ongoing issue • Brought to RAC’s attention in 2006 • Frustrations of the RAC • OTR reluctant to make presentation to the RAC • Waiting to hear both sides of the story prior to making a decision on stance • Sub-committees members attend public meetings hosted by BLM and OTR
