Work Time • Team member Bart Ring diligently working with the finer aspects of the project. • Lane Dukart studies his math calculations • Garrett Rich spices up the power point presentation
Materials • DC motor – generator • Cardboard - propellers • Molding Clay/Krazy Glue - Support of the base • PVC Pipe - Framework of windmill • Duct Tape - Everything • Butt Splice - Wire • Wood Block – Base • Drill Head – Cranks generator
Equations for Windmill • Power = Amps x Voltage • Amps = .0125 • Voltage = .8 volts • Power = (.0125) x (.8) = .01 volts
Equations for Air • Power = .5 x p x Area x Velocity2 • p = 1.204 • Radius of Fan = .2 meters • Area of Fan = pi x .04 m = .125 meters2 • Windspeed = 22 mph = 9.83 m/s • Power = .5 x 1.204 x .125 x 9.833 = 71.5
Efficiency Equation • Efficiency = (powermill / powerair ) x 100 • Efficiency = (.01 / 71.5) x 100 = .0139 % • Killer efficiency
Conclusion • We took a different path in building our windmill than the other groups. We used what was around us and put together a horribly efficient, but workable windmill. We had a blast making this windmill, half the fun was wondering if the device would produce us some power.
