What is C3West? • One of the MCA’s key external programs, C3West is based on the idea that artists can bring unique value to situations beyond the gallery context. • C3West aims to develop new ways of working together with artists, business, non-arts government organisations and local communities across Greater Sydney.
Western Sydney Parklands is a place for people of all backgrounds to meet, celebrate, play and appreciate the environment.
Sleepers Awake As dusk falls a new star appears low in the sky, above Bungarribee. It shines bright in the night sky, a strange visitor, emitting an unworldly light. For miles around it is visible in the wide-open skies, a beacon for what lies beneath. Drawn from their homes, locals and distant star gazers come to Bungarribee to witness the new star. “We think about people and how we can make them see their world afresh, how we can lift them out of the everyday to see the edges of their lives. We think we can do that by finding forms of expression that agitate.” Heather and Ivan Morison, Sleepers Awake artists’ statement ,2013 Heather and Ivan Morison, Sleepers Awake, installation view, Milton Creek, Sittingbourne, UK, 2011
‘‘Sometimes we create myths - worlds for these forms to exist within. We believe stories are how we understand the world, and if we can take control of them we can shape the world around us.’’ Heather and Ivan Morison, Sleepers Awakeartists’ statement, 2013 Heather and Ivan Morison, Sleepers Awake, installation view, Milton Creek, Sittingbourne, UK, 2011
