This update provides information on the perfSONAR Information Services, including the Home Lookup Service (hLS) and Global Lookup Service (gLS), their features, deployment, and future goals.

Lookup Service • Currently manages the registration of: • perfSONAR Services • Other Measurement tools: • Owamp daemons • Bwctl daemons • NDT Servers • NPAD Servers • Reverse Traceroute Servers • Consists of a two tier service structure: • hLS (‘Home’ Lookup Service) • gLS (‘Global’ Lookup Service)

  3. Home Lookup Service • Deploy within your domain • Configure services to register here • Communicates with known Global services • ‘Summarizes’ data set before sharing • Address/Netmask information is condensed • Domains are collected • Data Types • ‘Keywords’ (Personalized tags for communities, e.g. LHC, USAtlas, etc.)

  4. Global Lookup Service • Deployed world wide by project partners • APAN • ESnet • Geant2 • Internet2 • RNP • University of Delaware • Manage the ‘summarized’ data set from hLS instances • Allow ‘discovery’ queries

Global Lookup Service • Discovery Consists of ‘do you have’ type of queries: • Information for IP Range ‘WW’ • Information for Domain ‘XX’ • ‘YY’ Data Type (or ‘YY’ Service Type) • Community ‘ZZ’ information • Available as web pages currently • http://www.perfsonar.net/activeServices/ • API work ongoing • Goal to provide web/command line use cases

  7. Future Goals • Performance Node Re-design • Adoption of RedHat based technology • Expected release 2nd Quarter 2009 • Lookup Service + Topology Service combination • Security Considerations (AAA support)
