The STLP Mission • “The Mission of the Student Technology Leadership Program is to advance the individual capabilities of students; to motivate all students; and to create leadership opportunities through the use of technology.”
The STLP Mission at Fairview Middle School • “The mission of the Student Technology Leadership Program is to increase student participation, learning and achievement and to collaborate within the school, district and community through the use of technology”
Fairview Middle School became a state recognized STLP school in November 2011
The 2011-2012 school year is the first year Fairview Middle School competed at Regional STLP competition at Morehead State University
Our school was represented at the Morehead Regional Competition this year with 3 showcase projects. Total student participation was 12.
Of those 3 showcases, all 3 were invited to State STLP Competition. 1 received a perfect score!
“The STLP will develop activities that enhance the academic, social and emotional growth of the student.” Goal 1 Goal 2 “The STLP will provide leadership opportunities for all students.”
“The STLP will experience multi-age collaboration by forming innovative learning partnerships.” Goal 3 Goal 4 “The STLP will form learning partnerships between students with different technology skills.”
“The STLP will develop activities that benefit the community.” Goal 5 Goal 6 “The STLP will develop instructional activities, which integrate technology and benefit the school and support the Kentucky Educational Technology System (KETS).”
How we are meeting the goal... • Our activities for the 2011-2012 school year include all two areas of STLP PROJECTS: community service and instructional. We plan to increase participation next year and build on our projects.
How we are meeting GOAL 1 • Through their projects, all STLP students have grown socially, academically and emotionally. They have met Goal 1 by becoming better students, working with others, collaborating with the community and finding answers and solutions to problems encountered through their work on projects and their STLP experiences.
How we are meeting GOAL 2 • Many of our STLP students are the “less popular” population. Through their participation and success in STLP, they have become respected and admired members of the school community. Many of these students have shown improvement in academics and a desire to participate in other extracurricular activities as a result.
How we are meeting GOAL 3 • Our Coffee and Computers group has worked with the librarian at Fairview High School to help launch an instructional program for students, teachers, and the community to share knowledge about computers. All levels of students have grown closer as a school community as a result of their STLP projects and interaction.
How we are meeting GOAL 4 • STLP Students have formed learning partnerships by completing projects. They have all had a part in the project, but quickly learned each others strengths and weaknesses and worked to utilize the strengths in each group and improve on each others weaknesses. They have formed close peer and staff friendships as a result of their participation in STLP.
How we are meeting GOAL 5 • Most all of the STLP projects have involved or included the community. Students have created websites that bring Cyber Safety Awareness to the school and community. They have organized events that have brought computer knowledge to the community. They have formed valuable partnerships with both the school community and local business community.
How we are meeting GOAL 6 • The entire STLP process has benefited the school and the KETS. Students are required to abide by school and KETS acceptable use policies. Their projects are aligned with curriculum standards and include all aspects of learning - emotional, academic, social. STLP is making good students great students and productive, informed members of the technology community.
