One thing I'm certain you've heard is that exercising the brain is every bit as important as exercising the body. I've linked to a few "brain games" for you to try. They'll be good for your brain, and may benefit your students' brains, as well. Verbal Fluency Game “Word Bubbles” Response Inhibition Game : “Color Match” Spatial Recall Game: “Memory Matrix” *Each of these links will take you to the Lumosity Website. By creating an account, you will be given free access to a few of the games available on the site. The games I’ve linked to above are several of the FREE games that are available on the website. Of course, they’ll give you an opportunity to pay for full access to all games- but that is NOT necessary in order to sample the games above. I’ve created a Wikispace specifically for our 2011-2012 Brain-Based Learning class. You will be receiving an invitation to join this Wiki within the next day or so. Please go ahead join. If you encounter trouble however, don’t worry. We’ll talk about this on September 8, and will make sure that everyone is able to access the Wiki. Our Wikispace will hold information about the class. It will provide a place for you to upload assignments, and will allow us to communicate with one another between sessions. Click on this link to explore our BBL Wiki. Sign-in by clicking on “Participants 2011-12.” Then click on EDIT, and add your name to the list that begins with MY name. NEXT
Thanks for playing around with this intro to Brain-Based Learning. I’m looking forward to meeting you next week, & beginning what I know will be another great year with the TCL program. I LOVE teaching about- &continuing to learn about- the human brain! My hope is that your participation in Brain-Based Learning will spark your own interest in & curiosity about the brain. The ultimate goal is to better understand the students in our classrooms, so that we can teach in ways that take advantage of how their brains learn. See you soon! Julie Crotty
