Checklist Before Testing • Carefully read the Test Administration Directions in advance • Prepare students: • Announce testing dates with start times Three subtests administered in this order • April 3 – Reading • April 4 – Writing • April 5 – Mathematics • All testing begins between 8:00am and 10:00am on the designated dates • Students are not permitted to leave within the first two hours of testing • No students are permitted to start after the first two hours of testing • Explain the purpose of the test • Confirm which subtests are to be taken for each student (HSGQE Retest Only) • Outline cell phone and other technology limitations/consequences
Before Testing • Prepare the classroom: • Remove any displayed instructional material • Check and locate all necessary testing materials • Familiarize yourself with the School/Classroom Daily Check In-Check Out Worksheet in the TAD (or the like) • Ensure the testing environment is free of disruption Provided by DRC: Provided by District: • Test Administration Directions Manuals • Test books • Precode labels and/or district/school labels • Rulers and protractors • “Do Not Score” Labels • Classroom Daily Check In-Check Out Worksheet • Sharpened No. 2 pencils with eraser (not mechanical) • Extra erasers • Scratch paper for reading, writing, and mathematics tests • “Do Not Disturb” sign(s) • Seating Chart (suggested) • List of students and subtests to be taken • List of students requiring accommodations/modifications
Before Testing • Obtain a list of students needing accommodations • Materials for students receiving accommodations might include: • Large Print – per grade and subject • Braille – per grade and subject • Audio CD – grade 10 writing and math & HSGQE Retest reading, writing, and math • Sign Language DVD – grade 10 writing and math & HSGQE Retest reading, writing, and math • These materials can also be requested through the DTC. • Braille and Large Print accommodated materials require transcription of responses into a Form D01 standard test book for Grade 10 SBA-HSGQE and Form D15 test book for the HSGQE Retest (procedures for transcription are in the Test Administration Directions). • IMPORTANT: Gr. 10 Writing and Math and HSGQE Retest Reading Audio CDs consist of 2 volumes (2 separate discs). Ensure both discs are provided to students during testing.
Checklist During Testing • Clarify expectations of electronic devices with all students • Three subtests administered in this order • April 3 – Reading • April 4 – Writing • April 5 – Mathematics • Distribute, collect, and inventory testing materials using the Check In-Check Out Worksheet (or the like) • Students are not permitted to work on previous or subsequent day’s test
During Testing – HSGQE Retest • HSGQE Retest Form D15 • One test book containing reading, writing, and mathematics • Label applied to front cover by district (precode or district/school) • When using district/school labels, bubble in all student information (see TAD for details). • Returning adults with Certificates of Achievement – bubble in what is known
During Testing – Gr. 10 SBA-HSGQE • There are 14 Reading Forms (D01-D14) and 7 Writing/Math Forms (D01-D07) • The same form number does not need to be used when administering the reading and writing/mathematics assessments. • Two test books: 1 containing reading and 1 containing writing and mathematics • Apply a label to the front covers (precode or district/school) • Two precode labels are produced for grade 10 students: 1 for the reading test book and 1 for the writing/math test book. • When using district/school labels, bubble in all student information (see TAD for details).
During Testing • All test books must have either a precode label or a district/school label. Precode Label District/School Label • Yellow labels are to be used only for Gr. 10 SBA-HSGQE & HSGQE Retest test books. • Test books returned without a label will be considered unused and WILL NOT BE SCORED.
During Testing • The precode label saves proctors time and eliminates errors caused by hand-bubbling. • If a precode label is used, the bubbles on the front cover of the test remain blank. • In cases where students fill in bubbles, the label overrides any marks (no need to erase the bubbles).
During Testing • Note the label includes the HSGQE subtests to be taken • It is a quick reference for proctors administering the HSGQE Retest • If only the subtests listed are inaccurate, the label may still be used – this will not impact any data collection • Remember: test in – grade in • Repeating grade 10 students take the Grade 10 SBA-HSGQE. Students who have a previously passing HSGQE score will have current scores suppressed. Students without a previous passing score will have their HSGQE scores applied.
During Testing • District/school labels are used in place of a precode label • It will assign the student to the correct district and school for reporting test scores. • When a precode label contains incorrect student-identifying information, replace it with the district/school label. • When a district/school label is applied, all bubbles on the test book front cover must be completed.
During Testing • Proctors must follow the instructions exactly to ensure similar testing conditions in all classrooms. • All text preceded by the “say” bubble must be read exactly as written. • If a student asks for help, say, “I cannot help you with that. Please do the best you can.” • Consistently monitor student progress while testing: • Cheating • Random marking of answers • Guessing • Correct subtest (reading, writing, mathematics) • Proper bubbling
During Testing • Are you prepared to handle the following during testing: • Bloody nose • Student illness • Student violence or destruction of test • Student disruption • Unscheduled parent visit • Earthquake
Checklist After Testing • When a student turns in the test book, note the time on the worksheet, and ask, “Have you checked to make sure you have answered all the questions?” • Do not flip through the test book to check for completion. • After testing is complete, inventory student test books and ensure the following: • All test books are counted and the Check In-Check Out Worksheet is accurate • Document the accommodations that were actually used during testing on the inside cover of the answer document. • Reference sheets are removed • Each test book to be scored has a label • “Teacher use only” field is complete where applicable (consult DTC before invalidating) • Braille and Large Print accommodated tests have been transcribed (under no circumstances may keyboarded responses be sent as a separate piece of paper or attached to the test book) • Document any testing irregularity (e.g., fire alarm, student sick)
Checklist After Testing (cont.) • Grade 10 reading, writing, and mathematics collect student accommodations actually used at testing via the inside front cover of the test books. • The Braille and Large Print bubbles have been moved to the inside cover under Question 1. • This page should be completed after the student has finished testing for grade 10 (reference the Test Administration Directions manual for accommodation collection instructions).
Step Six: Prepare the Test Books (cont.) • All test books must be secure and tracked • Use “Do Not Score” labels under the following circumstances: • A label is not positioned correctly on the test book (redo with another test book and district/school label) • A precode label was placed on the test book, but the student did not show up for testing • An inappropriate label was placed on the test book (may need to transcribe student answers) • Test should not be scored Avoid using a “Do Not Score” label if there is a bubble correctly marked in the “Teacher Use Only” field on the front cover
