F-MAN Project – Final ReviewGenoa, December 2nd – 3rd, 2004 Prototype“users point of view” AMM, DPM and TSM
Overview • F-MAN System Main Modules • Roles • Feature List • Tracking System Module (TSM) • Map module • Data Processing Module (DPM) • Master data, Itineraries • Maintenance • Asset Management Module (AMM) • F-MAN process • Model: Order, Trip, Task • Proposals -> Reservation • Decision Support System • Delay affecting consecutive orders • What’s next
F-MAN System Main Modules • Internet based order processing (wagon reservation) • F-MAN supports wagon selection for a transport order (Decision Support System) • Order- and status monitoring using a board computer (OBT) and a map interface (tracking & tracing) • Time supervision and ETA calculation • Fleet management (Asset Management Module) and Scheduling • Optimization of the wagon usage (consecutive orders per wagon) • Bid and offer (status affecting DSS)
Roles, Real Time Data • Wagon Owners (WO) provide their wagons considering certain restrictions (e.g. contractual obligations) using the F-MAN application. • Infrastructure Managers (IM) issue corridors and schedules for the transport order • Order Managers (OM) enter transport orders for their customers • Fleet Managers (FM) assign wagons using the Decision Support System in order to optimize usage according to pre-defined criteria • Operation Managers (OPM) confirm the transport request for wagons and communicate with Fleet Managers using the F-MAN application • Based on real time data wagon statuses and schedules are supervised – taking into account maintenance intervals and downtimes of the wagons

F-MAN Project – Final ReviewGenoa, December 2nd – 3rd, 2004 TSM
TSM: Tracking & Tracing • Tracking & Tracing is based on a graphical map interface • For each kind of visualization a different symbol is displayed to represent objects • Tooltips provide additional information
F-MAN Project – Final ReviewGenoa, December 2nd – 3rd, 2004 DPM
DPM: Data Processing Module The main functions of the DPM are: • performs the user and wagon registration (F-MAN pool formulation) • maintains the system databases • translates and integrates wagons On-Board Terminal data with information coming from other entities (OPM, FM or MM) in order to forecast Expected Time of Arrival • performs the management of SMS communication • determines wagons availability taking into account status oriented maintenance and planned inspections
F-MAN Project – Final ReviewGenoa, December 2nd – 3rd, 2004 AMM
AMM: Asset Management Module The main functions of the AMM are: • user interface to the system • interact with the DPM in order to provide the FM with timely and appropriate solution to OM requests and to process Transport Orders collaboratively • asset management based on reliable and updated information on the fleet, enabling productivity control and monitoring • automation of workflow, information flow and distribution of knowledge to involved people • Decision Support System (DSS) to select the wagons and suggest appropriate actions • optimization of the F-MAN pool

AMM: A defined trip ORDER O D TRIP1 X2 O D Y3 TASK1 TASK3 D Y3 X2 O TASK2 O D
AMM: Decision Support System • Proper selection: • Consider fixed and variable wagon and transport costs concerning distance and time • Consider wagon availability and fleet utilization • System is open to customization and allows to implement business rules of future users, e.g. • Priorities amongst wagon owners • Restricted areas • Consideration of New Wagon Status criteria • Consecutive Transport Orders per wagon • Future: automatic selection of „proper“ wagons
AMM: Decision Support System (Selection rules and criteria) Price as a criterion for the proposed solution: Quality = kmXD * Wpricekm + kmXO * OPMpricekm kmXD = distance between wagon source X and destination D kmXO = distance between wagon source X and origin O Wpricekm = price of the wagon for a certain value (day / hour) OPMpricekm = price of the OPM for a certain value (day / hour)

F-MAN Project – Final ReviewGenoa, December 2nd – 3rd, 2004 What’s next?
What‘s next ? F-MAN is capable of dealing with different issues because order management and wagon selection is on a very high level and can be customized. • F-MAN in intermodal logistics chains ? • F-MAN II ?
