Francis Crick & James Watson By: Meredith, Laurel, Ivy, and Alexandra
Their Big Achievement • Crick and Watson decided to perform a study on DNA together • They found that DNA is a double helix • They won the Nobel Prize together for their finding
Francis Crick • Born June 8, 1916 in North Hampton, England • Won many awards for different studies and experiments that contributed to science • Such as the Nobel Prize, Laker Award, Merit Award, and many more • Died on July 28, 2004 at the age of 88
James Watson • Born in Chicago, Ill on April 6th, 1928 • Won many awards contributing to science • Such as, John Collins Warren Prize of Massachusetts General Hospital, the Eli Lilly Award, the Laker Award, the Research Corporation Prize, and many more • He is still alive and well
Contributions From Other Scientists • There were many things that Francis and Crick learned from other scientists • One thing is In 1950, Erwin Chargaff discovered that the order of certain bases in a DNA molecule could vary in many ways, but the number of precise bases always occurred in a one-to-one ratio • Also, Watson and Crick followed up on Roselyn Franklin’s findings to discover their final theory
