2 Months • Size of a kidney bean • Slightly web fingers are distinctly visible as well as feet • At 40 days, the spine begins to form
3Months • Size around 3 inches • Weighs approx. 1 ounce • Fingerprints are now evident • Now considered a fetus at this point
4 Months • Size around 5 inches (can fit in the average sized hand) • Weighs around 5 ounces • Skeleton begins to harden
5 Months • Size approx. 10 inches if fully stretched out • Eyebrows and eyelids are visible
6 Months • Weighs approx. 1 and a half pounds • Skin begins to smooth out • Baby begins to gain weight through fat
7 Months • Weighs around 3 pounds • Size around 15 inches • Eyelids begin to work and baby can see light and will follow a light
8Months • Weighs around 4 ¾ pounds • Baby begins to put on fat • Lungs are well developed
9 Months • Size around 19 inches • Weighs around 7 pounds • Vary in size at this stage
Possible Issue in the fetus • Teratogens • Chemical or viral agents which can reach the embryo or fetus and cause harm • Examples • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome • When a woman drinks heavily, the baby’s development is stalled, can lead to mental and physical deformities. • Heavy drug use
