The spiny dogfish’s sides are covered with white spots. It has a flat head and small sharp teeth. The length of it is 2 ½ to 3 feet long. The largest one is 4 feet or bigger.
The spiny dogfish lives in cold coastal waters in all oceans, mostly in Canadian waters and in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
The spiny dogfish likes to eat invertebrates. They look for ratfish, jellyfish, krill crabs, squids and octopus.
The spiny dogfish uses its spine to curl in a bow and then strike its victim. The spines are mildly poisonous.
The spiny dogfish’s litter size is up to twenty. It has three other names. They are the common spiny dogfish, piked dogfish and mud shark.
