How does the Earth move? • Revolution: Earth travels on an orbit around the sun • Takes 365 1/4th days • Earth revolves around the sun, which causes • The length of our year • Our seasons: as the Earth moves, we get 4 seasons • Why do we have 4 seasons?
How does the Earth move? • Rotation: The Earth spins on its axis every 24 hours • Axis = invisible line connecting North and South pole • Earth’s axis tilts at 23.5 degrees • Earth’s rotation causes day and night • Earth turns on its axis

Earth-Sun Relationships • Two Hemispheres • Hemi = half • Sphere = circle • Northern Hemisphere = above equator • Southern Hemisphere = below equator • As Earth revolves, sun’s energy hits each hemisphere differently • = opposite seasons
