Understanding Recipes • Volume • Used most often to measure liquids • The volume measure should be placed on a level surface • Liquid filled to the specified line • Count • Used for smaller items such as eggs, olives etc.

Understanding Recipes Chocolate Chip Cookies Yield: 15 (2 oz cookies) or 30 (1 oz cookies)Ingredients: • 1 cup butter/margarine, softened • 1 ½ cups packed brown sugar • ½ cup granulated white sugar • 2 eggs • 2 tsp vanilla extract • 2 ½ cups all purpose flour • ½ tsp baking soda • 1 tsp salt • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips Directions: • Preheat oven to 300 F. • In a mixer bowl, cream together butter, brown and white sugar until mixture appears creamy white in colour and light and fluffy. • At this point, add eggs one at a time. • Add vanilla extract and blend in. • Combine flour, baking soda and salt and mix into mixture. Mix well. • Using a rubber spatula, fold in chocolate chips. • Using a 2 oz cookie scoop (red handle), scoop cookie dough onto baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes, until golden brown around the edges. • Let cool and enjoy.
