OV smartcardthe advantages • Smartcard is a trusted technical solution for payment solutions (Chipknip) • Natural successor to magnetic stripe card • OV smartcard proven technology (?) • Ease of use – no more waiting in line • Multifunctionality (payment, parking,…) • Security (?) – less fraud, less molestation 3

OV smartcardthe disadvantages • Lack ease of use • Travel information is not (directly) available • What will my trip cost? • What is the balance on my card? • Reload possibilities only in specific locations • Stations & post offices • Closed system • Lack of standardization • Production costs • Operating costs 4

OV Mobilehow it works • Only replacement of payments: OV Smartcard  OV Mobile • You must still check in and out at CiCo facilities • You need a special mobile with a NFC chip • You can upgrade your mobile anytime and everywhere • It is possible to purchase special mobile at retailers of mobile operators 5

  6. OV Mobilethe advantages • Ease of use • Travel information immediately available > on your mobile • Upgrading is available everywhere (provided there is network coverage) • Other applications - mobile payment, integration with navigation 6

OV Mobilethe advantages Using the strength of the mobile industry: • Almost everyone has a cell phone • Open system • Access to mobile networks in the Netherlands and Europe • Access to CiCo posts possible through software changes • Lower operating costs • Use of distribution and service infrastructure of existing mobile operators • No special card production • No reloading posts • More efficient security-management 7

OV Mobilethe disadvantages • Almost everyone has a cell phone, however: • Not everyone (grandpa & grandma, tourists) • Mobile phones with NFC chip penetration is still low • What if the battery of your mobile gets empty? • If you want to travel • When you are already in the train and the conductor comes along • If you want to check out • Is the OV Mobile more safe or unsafe than the OV smartcard? 8
