  1. Gun Control By: Kirstie Moni

  2. Explaining My Topic • Gun control is a citizen right written in the constitution under amendment two. This amendment states that citizens have the right to bear arms but responsibly and carefully. • Gun ownership is an individual right, not connected with military service, and that it can be regulated in some ways. • People use guns for protection, others use it for revenge or they want to feel the adrenaline. • The amendment states, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” • Today guns can be very dangerous especially in schools from all the tragedies that have been happening.

  3. Proposed Law My proposed law states “Citizens should have restrictions on gun control and handle this control responsibly”. Meaning that people can have guns but need to be careful using it so laws should be made so guns can be carefully used. Also the younger people should not be allowed to own or have gun.

  4. How It Supports Individual Rights and Common Goods Individual Rights: Common Goods: Gun control only protects the community if used responsibly. Today, gun control does not protect the common good because most people use it for dangerous reasons. However, gun control does protect people from necessary events. • Citizens get to protect themselves from dangerous events. • They get to have the ability to own a weapon (but with a license). • Citizens can also reclaim their control to bear arms.

  5. Court Case 1: Bailey V. U.S. (1995) Bailey was convicted of federal drug offenses and of violated the constitution. The court decided, Bailey should be charged under use and carry of things without a license. The law is stricter now because if you get caught with carry dangerous weapons you are immediately arrested. This relates to my topic because its evidence on why we must have this law.

  6. Barrett V. U.S. (1976) • Barrett has been convicted of housebreaking. • They decided to sentence Barrett for 2 years. • If a person breaks into a house they go to jail longer than 2 years. • This relates to my topic because now people will understand how dangerous it is to have citizens get gun control. This control can fall into the wrong hands of the wrong people.

  7. Current Event Article 1: Student killed in shooting at Coastal Carolina University • Anthony Darnell Liddell, 19, was killed at a shooting that took place in Carolina University. • The shooter left in a vehicle, police still searching. • More than 9,000 students attend the school. • This event relates to my topic because in this past year, there have been many shootings by people who can have gun control but don’t use it for protection. It supports my law because people will understand that this law needs to be passed in order to have less dangerous events like these.

  8. Ohio teen pleads guilty in deadly school shooting. • T.J. Lane was the shooter at Chardon High School on February 27, 2012. • Accused of killing three schoolmates and wounding three others, Murder and other charges. • Admitted taking a .22 caliber gun and a knife into school and firing a number of rounds in the cafeteria, choosing his victims randomly. • This event relates to my topic because first of all an innocent student was killed by a teen who was not even allowed to have gun control.
