  2. The Middlesex County (MA) Chapter Of The Links, Inc. • Established in 1946, The Links, Incorporated is an organization of accomplished, dedicated women who are active in your community. The Links members are newsmakers, role models, mentors, activists and volunteers who work toward the realization of making the name “Links” not only a chain of friendship, but also a chain of purposeful service. • The Middlesex County (MA) Chapter is the 144th chapter (of 280 chapters) and was established in 1976.

  3. Vision • Our vision is to positively impact the quality of life for humankind through community service. In response to the ever-changing needs of our society, we will increase participation nationally and internationally for a stronger partnership with people and organizations of good will and good deeds.

  4. Objectives • To foster economic development. • To educate the public about issues central to the well-being of African-Americans. • To advocate appropriate public responses to the needs of African-Americans. • To provide a positive approach to address critical issues surrounding families. • To collaborate with organizations with similar goals and objectives for positive outcomes. • To increase awareness of national and international issues that endanger families.

  5. Program Overview • From the inception of The Links, Inc. the organization has addressed its community service through its threefold purpose in the areas of education, civic and intercultural commitment using program facets. • The program facets are: • Services to Youth • The Arts • National Trends and Services • International Trends and Services • Health and Human Services

  6. Sisters Linked to Sisters (SL2S) • All 5 facets are integrated into our Chapter’s signature program, SL2S. • The SL2S mission is to help break the cycle of poverty for at-risk families, especially those headed by women of color and to improve their overall health and emotional well-being.

  7. Services to Youth • The Links, Incorporated created its first program facet, Services to Youth, to equip black youth to use their intellect and spirit of achievement to become successful and productive citizens. Today, The Links, Incorporated continues to implement aligned, integrated and transformational programs that are responsive to the academic, health, cultural, social awareness, career development, and mentoring needs of youth.

  8. The Arts • The Arts facet was developed to encourage appreciation of and support for cultural enrichment and the arts. We recognize how art is an important foundation to good mental health and can foster healthy connections. Our programming includes partnerships with likeminded organizations, sowing the seed of creativity deeper in our community. Throughout the nation, Links chapters partner with museums, symphonies, arts councils, educational institutes and corporations in order to support art programs, especially where there is a focus on artists of color.

  9. National Trends and Services • The vision of the National Trends and Services facet is to eliminate disparities by reducing barriers to services through advocacy, education, and service. Our goals include increasing collaborative partnerships and extending our existing initiatives to include communities identified as having the greatest need.

  10. International Trends and Services • The mission of the International Trends and Services facet is to expand the global platform for programs designed and developed to service the educational, health and cultural needs of people of African descent throughout the world. The foremost goal of this facet is to provide opportunities for tangible service in other countries.

  11. Health and Human Services • The Health and Human Services facet promotes and facilitates programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources.
