Employment Opportunities • Recent graduates of the department are employed in a variety of settings, including universities, colleges, school boards, government agencies, hospitals, industry, clinics, and in the private practice of psychology.
Five Master’s Programs • Counselling Psychology • Psychological Studies in Education • Special Education • Measurement, Evaluation and Cognition • Teaching English as a Second Language
Two Counselling Psychology Programs • Thesis Route: • Continue into a PhD program • Course-based Route: • Preparation for practice in the field • Separate application packages must be submitted to be considered for admission to each route (can apply to both) • Statement of intent: • applicant’s specific interest • suitability for chosen route
Psychological Studies in Education • The Psychological Studies in Education Area (PSE) emphasizes the relationship of child and adult psychological functioning to educational issues.
PSE • Educational psychologists who work with a school-age population in a variety of settings • Eligible for the College of Alberta Psychologists' registration • University and college academic positions in professional programs
Measurement, Evaluation & Cognition • The central purpose of MEC is to conduct and promote high-quality research in the areas of educational measurement and cognitive psychology in order to make assessment an integral part of learning and instruction.
Program Requirements • GRE is NOT required for any program • No direct matches at the master's level, between faculty and student research interests • Contact with professors prior to applying is not mandatory • Entry requirements differ based upon program
Decisions based upon: • Previous academic record (last 60 credits) • Academic background in area of interest • Relevant practical experience • 3 letters of recommendation (2 from academics) • Statement of intent
