Early Life • Victor Hugo was born in France on February 26, 1802. • He and his two older brothers lived with their mother in Paris. • Grew up during the French Revolution. • He father was a soldier in Napoleon’s army, so he traveled often. • His mother was a royalist. • Both of his parents had affairs during their time apart, but Victor’s father Leopold always supported the family financially. • Their conflicting political beliefs led to the separation of Hugo’s parents.
