Counter-Logic Designs Design Project #1
The Team Left to Right: Carl Jean Louis, Ryan Ponse, Saeed, Matt L. Coleman
The purpose/objectives of this project were to design a virtual steel bridge to specifications, to construct a prototype using only craft sticks and white glue, and to document, analyze, and report the results of the load test given after the completion of the bridge’s construction The Purpose
The Design Design made from West Point Bridge Designer. The aesthetically pleasing features do serve a purpose.
Consisted of a sloping Warren truss above the deck with “horns” that served an aesthetic and also structural purpose, and a smaller warren truss below the deck. The original design did feature members spanning across the top of the bridge, but were omitted in the prototype. The Design cont.
The Finished Product The final design of the bridge, with some modifications from the original
In the end, the bridge was able to hold about 36 lbs before bridge failure occurred, with the estimated load capacity expected to be 60 lbs. We believe this was due to the omission of the spanning members in the original design. This would have provided extra support when the bridge’s two super-structures began to warp. The Results Picture shows no members spanning the top of the bridge, which lead to failure.
