  5. Family life • She married a widower, John Proctor • Her husband voiced opposition to the witch trials • She was John's third wife and married to him for 18 years. • Gave birth to a son, John Proctor III in January, 1693, while still imprisoned • Had a daughter, Sarah

  6. career • Helped John run a tavern • Elizabeth fought on two occasions with Robert Stone over an unpaid bar tab.

  7. Religious practices • Was a good-standing Puritan in the community

  8. Involvement • One of first women in Salem to be accused of witchcraft • Accused with her husband, John • Accused by a local girl, Mary Warren • Accused on March 28, 1692 • Put on trial and found guilty • Was pregnant and spared from being hanged • John was hanged • By the time she had her child, those convicted of witchcraft had been pardoned. Thus, her unborn child saved her life.
