John Proctor Dennis Forbes Ms. DelGrego English 3 CP October 3, 2011
Life • I was Born on March 30, 1632 • I was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts and later moved to Salem in 1666 • I Died August 19, 1692 • I was 60 years old when the fist accusations of witch craft started happening.
Early years of John Proctor I lived in Ipswich, Massachusetts and lived on a large estate. I moved to Salem when I was 30 to make to become more successful. My family is well known for being farmers. In Salem I own the largest farm in the entire town. My parents are John Proctor Sr. and Martha Harper
Education • I was very well educated by my parents and hired tutors. • I also learned religious practices from my reverend in Ipswich • I made education high importance in my family and made sure my kids were taught properly.
Career • I was a successful farmer and I had a 700 acres of land immediately southeast of the Village line. • My family and I also ran the local tavern in town • I was very wealthy compared to other people in the town.
Religion • My family was very strict religious Christian • I did not like the way Reverend Parris ran the church. • I had multiple wives and affairs. • I had a kid with one of my affairs • The affair I feel most guilty is with 17 year old Abigail Williams.
First Accusations • My wife, Elizabeth Proctor, was Accused first and I stood by her side the entire time stating that I didn’t believe in in witchcraft. • I am very skeptical about witch craft and I believe it is fake • I was the first man to be accused of witch crafted by my mistress Abigail Williams
My Trail • I challenge the uses of Spectral evidence saying its not valid at all • My wife and I were tried on August 5, 1692. • We were both found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging • I prepared my will and left nothing to my wife assuming she would be executed as well. • I was executed on August 19, 1692. • My wife was never executed because she was pregnant so she outlasted the witch hysteria
Aftermath • In January 1693, while still in jail, Elizabeth Proctor gave birth to my son John Proctor III • My wife remained in jail until may • Since I did not give her anything in my will she came out of jail owning nothing. • All my land was later auctioned off to other villagers.
