Objectives • Beginners- SWBAT state how many notes are in the pentatonic scale and name how many notes are in a major scale • Intermediate- SWBAT describe the notes in the pentatonic scale as they pertain to Solfege syllables and describe the number of notes and the solfege syllables used in a major scale. • Advance- SWBAT compare the pentatonic scale and the Major scale by the number of notes and the solfege syllables used.
Review of the Major Mode • The major mode contains seven notes. • Similarly we use seven solfege syllables to sing a major scale Do Re MiFa Sol La Ti

The Pentatonic Scale • Pentatonic comes from the Greek word Pentemeaning five and tonic meaning tone. • A Pentatonic Scale contains Five notes. • Similarly when we sing a pentatonic scale with Solfege we only use five of the syllables • Do Re Me Sol La • What Syllables get left out?
The syllables left out are “fa” and “ti” • There can be Minor and Major Pentatonic scales • We are focusing on the Major Pentatonic scale. • The notes in a C Major Pentatonic scale are C D E G A Do Re Me Sol La Do
