Using Systems of Equations Chapter 8 Section 4
Standards CA 9.0: Solve a system of two linear equations with two variables algebraically. Goals: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to solve problems using systems of equations.
The Substitution Method Solving by graphing is not the most accurate method of finding solutions to systems of equations. A more accurate method is called the substitution method. In this method, solve for one variable in one of the equations and “substitute” it into the second equation.
The Addition Method Another accurate method to solve systems of equations is called the addition method. In this method, solve for one variable by adding the two equations together and eliminating one of the two variables.
