…we’ve come a long way • Since 1927, we’ve been serving the East Bay community. • By 1927, began as a high school as a part of the OUSD • By the 1940s, morphed into a nationally recognized trade and technical institute by the 1940s. • In 1948, assumed the name Laney College in honor of Joseph C. Laney, an award winning journalist and educational leader in 1948 • By 1963, became a comprehensive community college when Oakland created the Peralta Community College District. • In 1970, this Fallon Street campus opened. Thus, our 40th@Fallon • Now, providing 44 associate degrees and 35 certificate programs- covering fundamental and forward-thinking educational priorities in higher education.

…2010-11 Institutional Effectiveness Goals • Assessment - Initiate the full program level assessment cycle by the end of the year consistent with our accreditation requirements. This consists of developing all SLOs for courses by Fall 2010, and for programs by Spring 2011. • Accreditation: Provide leadership support to the District to assure re-affirmation of Laney College’s accreditation on unconditional (non-probationary) status. • Student Performance: Increase the performance rates (i.e., retention, persistence, successful course and certificate completion, graduation and transfer) among all students in ways that demonstrate student equity. This includes ensuring that students transition efficiently and effectively from foundation skills to college level skills courses. • Resource Management: Ensure fiscal solvency that supports securing at minimum $5 million from alternative funding sources to support the educational priorities of Laney College.
