What is Instructional Technology? • Interactive Course Ware (ICW) • Computer Based Training or Instruction (CBT or CBI) • Sitting in front of a PC completing automated training modules • Computer Managed Instruction (CMI) • Program controls the path to completion • e.g. 7lvl ADL course • Web Based instruction and reference products • AOF Web
Instructional Technology – Examples: • ATC Combat Skills CBT • Complete / Distributed • Training should be completed and documented • ACC POC • Goal: Familiarize controllers with equipment utilized in their projected area of responsibility (AOR), not to take the place of hands-on war fighting skills

What is the Web ? AOF Web – What is it? • Primarily an “information retrieval tool” • Enables immediate access to most commonly used training products using “web based” technology • Mandatory for use IAW 13-204Para. 4.6
AOF Web - History • Concept from McConnell AFB (96’) • MSgt (ret) Daniel Rund • SSgt Ron Desormeaux • Created one-stop shopping for all ATC’s • Demonstrated and adopted by AFFSA in 1997 • Beta Test completed Jul 98 and released in Sep 98 • V.8 Jun 04 is the latest release
AOF Web - Contents • Updated products in version 8 • AFI 13-203, AFI 13-204, AFI 13-218 • FAAO 7110.65 • MAJCOM Supplements/Websites • External links to AF, FAA, & AFFSA sites • Official source for AF MTTR • This version contains a separate Tower and Radar MTTR. Cut and past over your links. • Over 100 regulations contained on disk
AOF Web - Contents • Master Task and Technical References (MTTRs) • AF standardized • Tasks • Mirrors the CFETP STS • Identifies all AF technical references required to accomplish the task (broken down to lowest denominator with internal/external links to AF/FAA references)
AOF Web - Contents • Master Reference Index • Comprehensive listing of AF mission essential documents • AF Instructions, FAA Orders, etc • Lists currency • Location (within CD, or external link) Thou shall “keep ‘em separated”
AOF Web - How is it done? • AOF Web Program is written in HTML • Standard computer language • Compatible with all computers
AOF Web - HQ-AFFSA’s Role • Maintain AF standardized MTTRs • Accomplish AF task breakdown (lowest denominator) for FAAO 7110.65, AFI 13-203, 13-204, 13-218, and ATCTSs • Maintain AF MRI • Maintain “hyperlinks” from AF identified TRs • Maintain distribution process • Establish AF policy and procedures for implementation and overall program use
AOF Web - Training Managers’ Role • Explain how users access the program • Explain how paper products will be used in conjunction with the AOF Web • Provide guidance about documentation procedures (i.e., CFETP/AFJQS) • Ensure HHQ guidance is filtered downward • Serve as the focal point to answer questions/solve problems associated with the program
AOF Web -Training Managers’ Role • Accomplish local task breakdown (lowest denominator) • Identify and embed local TR information into the AOF Web MTTR • OI’s, MAJCOM Supplements, QRC’s, RRF’s, OPLANs etc • Ensure local TRs are current according to the MRI • Identify facility management deferred task items
AOF Web - Installation • Minimum requirements (Hardware) • Pentium 166 processor or higher • Computer monitor with a video resolution of 800 x 600 pixels • 2x CD-ROM • Recommended Hardware: • Multi-media kit (speakers and sound card) • 8x CD-ROM or higher
AOF Web - Installation • Software Requirements • OS - MS Windows98 (or better) • Browser - MS IE 4.01 or Netscape 3.0 or higher (see note) • PDF Reader - Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or higher • The Browser and PDF Reader are included on the AOF Web Program CD NOTE: Netscape is not recommended
