Advantages to Students of on line Learning The audio visual overview will enable students to better understand : • The format of the teaching and learning materials • The process of being taught on line • The assessment process • The level of interactivity and communication • The advantages of flexible learning • The benefits to revision • The advantages of everything co-ordinated together on line
Advantages to Staff of on line Teaching The audio visual overview will also enable staff to better understand : • The range of formats • The flexibility to timetabling • That the use of electronic materials is not as difficult as they had anticipated and offers an exciting new opportunity for the development of high quality teaching and learning materials
Format of Lectures Lectures can be delivered in a variety of different formats to include: • Audio visual • Audio • Notes • Word Documents
Interactivity & Communication Interactivity is provided through the following: • Short question and answer sessions integrated into the lectures • Discussion Boards • E Journals • Chat Rooms • E mail • Telephone
Assessment Formative assessment is: • Provided as short revision sessions in lectures • Presented as multiple choice tests • Revision sessions with voice overs that can be podcast Summative Assessment is through: • Assignments • Examinations • Dissertation
Conclusion It is hoped that both staff and students will have learnt that distance learning: • Can take many formats • Offers a high level of interactivity • Provides a high degree of student support • Provides flexibility regarding when, where and at what pace a student learns • Is as good if not better than a campus based format • Can be exciting and inspirational
