  8. “In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jewsamong them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you of good reputation, who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.” Acts 6:1-6

  10. A promotion brings pride. An increase in salary brings greater responsibility – which takes away from family or time with God. Winning sets one up for attacks by those who aren't on top of their game. Wealth brings distractions from the things of Eternity. And so it goes.

  11. In the Kingdom, however…. Persecution brings joy. Hardship humility. Bearing one's cross – Christlikeness. Loneliness – closeness with God.

JOHN 17:11, “HEAVENLY FATHER, KEEP THROUGH YOUR NAME THOSE YOU HAVE GIVEN ME, THAT THEY MAY BE ONE.” John 17:20, “I DO NOT PRAY FOR THESE PRESENT WITH ME ALONE, BUT ALSO FOR THOSE THAT WILL BELIEVE IN ME THROUGH THEIR WORD, THAT THEY MAY BE ONE... THAT THE WORLD MAY BELIEVE THAT YOU SENT ME.”

  33. The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. …......... and God has put each part just where he wants it. 1 Corinthians 12:12-19
