Materials • Book “It’s Pumpkin Time!” • Paper • Pencils • Glue • Crayons • Worksheets • Tissues • Candy • Markers • String • Decorative Paper • Mini Halloween decorations
Day 1 • Today I will talk a little bit about the history of Halloween and then with my help, the children are going to do a craft where they will make their own “lolly ghosts”. They will be able to take their craft home and eat it.
Day 2 • The children will listen to me read the book “It’s Pumpkin Time!” by Zoe Hall. Then as a class we will discuss the book by talking about how a pumpkin grows and how you can decorate pumpkins differently. Then we will get on the internet and do a pumpkin carving activity and then print it out.
Day 3 • Today we will look at pictures related to Halloween and discuss what types of emotions we feel when looking at them. (Ex: Funny, Scary, Exciting) and then discuss the main idea of the picture.
Day 4 • Today we will divide different types of candy and then count how many are in each pile. We will then do a worksheet pertaining to the activity.
Day 5 • Today, with the help of the children, I will write 3 sentences on the board pertaining to Halloween and then with my help, the children will copy the three sentences on Halloween decorated paper and then color it.
Day 6 • The children will get on the computer and do activity called “Halloween Safety” This activity focuses on Halloween night and certain rules children should follow. After that we will make a Trick or Treat bag for the Halloween party on the last day.
Day 7 • Day 6: Today we will celebrate Halloween. The children have been asked to bring a costume and a bag of candy. They will also have their own trick or treat bag. They will then count out two pieces of candy two put in everyone’s bag.
Require Learner Participation: • I think I could keep the students on task by letting them explore the activities on the internet and by working together. Also, everything we’re doing is very exciting and should hold their attention. I could also help keep them on task by providing decorations and music to listen to while they do their work as well as me helping them out. This will make the environment exciting and fun instead of dull.
Evaluate and Revise: • The student’s learning and achievement is going to be evaluated through the short story I will be reading, and the pictures they will be looking at to discuss their emotions and the main idea. Their achievements will be acknowledged through the worksheets along with the Halloween Safety activity. The students will be evaluated through many different ways during this seven day unit theme.
