Language Arts at a Glance • Students have finished their creative writing projects. • Students have created poetry based on the limerick form. See appendix for pictures. • I encourage parents to ensure that their child is reading. Too often students are forgetting to read on a daily basis. • Students have completed their novel study of Trouble in the Trees. The also finished alternate title pages. • Signing the agenda daily will help ensure parent-teacher communication
Mathematics Measurement and Multiplying and Dividing Larger Numbers • Students performed fairly well on their Geometry tests. Marks could have been improved by paying attention to detail and not rushing to submit their test. • Students should continue ask more questions and try to complete past exercises at home or search for grade 5 math concepts on iXl or Khan Academy. Grade 5 will be fast approaching and some students who are struggling with math need to practice more. • We should continue to strive to have full participation in the sample test provided on the class website. Too often similar questions on the tests are incorrect. • I encourage parents to check agendas daily, and to sign the agenda daily. It is a tool for me and you to communicate.
April Art • Please find samples in the appendix • This month we focused on Spring Lupines and Flowers.
Science • The Science Fair was a tremendous success. • All students should feel very happy about their work • Currently Students are working on Light and Sound. We will also be starting Habitats and Communities next week. • We have a field trip to Science World on May 9, to help students prepare for the new unit. • Big congratulations to Narang and Mehtab who got their project working on the day of the fair.
Social Studies • Students participated in a field trip to the UBC Museum of Anthropology. We learned a lot about the Coastal Salish Communities of Aboriginals. • Students enjoyed learning about the different structural designs of varying Aboriginal groups. • Students will now begin to focus on early European exploration.
