PRAYER • Introduction: • Loss of control often leads to prayer • Prayer should not be used as means to regain control • Prayer should be: Seeking the presence of God • In His presence our perspective changes • Psalm 36: 9 In His light we see light
1 Peter 4:7 • The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of • sober mind so that you may pray. • 1 Peter 5:5-11 • 5 … All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, • “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” • 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. • 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. • 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. • 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. • 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Our perspective on ourselves changes when we seek Gods presence (vs.5-7) • Attitude of: • Humility • Dependence • Helplessness
Our perspective on the enemy changes (vs. 8,9) • Be self- controlled and alert. Not drifting • The roaring lion • The adversary, the diabolos, the accuser. • Resist him, standing firm in the faith • Prayer for the suffering church
Our perspective on God changes (vs.7, 10 - 11) • He cares for you, you are close to His heart • He is the God of all grace • He called you to His eternal glory in Christ. • He himself will restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. It is His work, not our effort. • 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 • 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. • 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
Peter exclaims: • To Him be the power for ever and ever. • Amen • Dass Jesus siegt, bleibt ewig ausgemacht, sein wird die ganze Welt. • That Jesus is victorious is an eternal certainty. • The whole world will belong to Him.
