Welcome Parents 4th Grade Parent Meeting
Homework • All assignments should be completed each night • Each assignment is calculated and given an average. The averages are combined and entered as a final grade. • Homework is 10% of the grade. • Reading each night for 30 minutes and practicing multiplication facts each night is necessary
Projects • Scholars will have at least 8 projects throughout the year in Reading. We have had 2 already. • Based on Common Core scholars are asked to think and relate instead of just memorizing. • Common Core is more rigorous and requires deeper thought • Projects are 10% of the final grade • Each novel read will require a project
Behavior • Inappropriate behaviors include: • Touching • Writing inappropriate notes • Bullying • Inappropriate verbal communication • Threats • “KILL” is absolutely off limits. It is automatically a 5 day suspension • Weapons of ANY kind: nail clippers, camping gear, or any item that can be considered dangerous (PLEASE CHECK BACKPACKS DAILY)
Field Trips • Any scholar that has received a suspension or any scholar that has documented misconducts is on probation. This means, when opportunities occur for field trip, the scholar may require parental assistance in order to attend the trip. You will be notified if your scholar is a candidate before a payment is made.
Final Notes • The scholars of 4th grade are in training. Training for life. You are your scholar’s first teacher. We are stepping in when you are out. We are rigorously trying to train your scholar and we need your help to do so. Helping with homework assignments, ensuring projects are done, and questioning your scholar about what they have learned is a vital process in developing your scholar. The educational system is developing toward creating learners for college beginning in kindergarten. Kindergarteners are being asked to do things that 2nd graders were once asked to do. Therefore, you can imagine what is being asked of your 4th grade scholar. Questions are more detailed and scholars are not just asked what but why. Assignments will be more challenging and require more thought rather than just putting information on paper. At Promise Academy we are committed to preparing your scholar for what lies ahead. We want what you want…for your scholar to be determined, dedicated, successful, high achievers that are ready to compete with the best and ready to outshine them at any moment!
