What is a life cycle? • A series of stages, marked by developmental changes throughout the course of the organism’s life. In other words, how they grow up.
But a Frog’s Life Cycle? • Like all organisms in this world, frogs grow from something very small, in this case a tiny egg. They eventually grow into a jumping, ribbiting creature.
Where do they start? After the female frog lays her eggs, she lets them grow on their own. This is a frogspawn.
What happens next? • These eggs hatch into small, fishlike larvae called tadpoles.
A Tadpole? • With a tail and gills as they continue to grow, legs begin to form.
Look at Me! • The rest of the body begins to form with two front legs in a couple of weeks.
Wait a Minute! I Thought They Can Live on Land Too? • As they grow, the tail slowly absorbs into the body and the tadpole develops lungs for breathing on land instead of gills.
My Tail! • The tail is fully absorbed and the frog is completely developed ready to start it’s new life on land.
