What Is It? • Intense perfectionism and inflexibility manifested in worrying, indecisiveness, and behavioral rigidity • WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??? O_o
Associated Features • Being very work oriented and less time to socialize • Really rigid and have poor interpersonal relationships • Do not have any obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviors • Wonder if they are not orderliness, so tend to procrastinate • Preoccupied with minor detail that forgets the main purpose of a task
Etiology • Psychosexual Stage • Anal Stage: A fixation in this stage can result to a personality that is too rigid or be really disordered • It’s a fixation that occurs in an early stage of a child's life which is from 18 months - 3 years of age
Prevalence • Systematic assessment shows the estimates of about 1% in the population • 3-10% in individuals presenting to mental health clinics
Treatment • Psychodynamic psychotherapy: Therapist often attack the fear of the need of the orderliness or use distraction technique to redirect the compulsive thoughts • Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy: Focus on the thought processes, may reinforce this ruminative tendency
Prognosis • The rigidness and control of OCPD may prevent many of the complications such as drug abuse, which are common in other personality disorders. • However, the social isolation and difficulty handling anger that are common with this illness may lead to feelings of depression and anxiety later in life.
