  10. Global Educational Trends Global trends are challenging conventional educational models. There is a decided tendency to meet diverse student needs through diverse educational options or ”pathways”. • Accelerating change - Global, knowledge-based and innovation-based societies are quickly rendering obsolete what has been previously learned. • Focus on preparation for future jobs (progressively rewarding individual creativity). • Quality of learning can be enhanced by individualized (student-relevant) education and technology. • Decentralization- Technology has eliminated social, economic, geographical and physical boundaries. • Longer life-spans require more opportunities for life-long learning. • Students with diverse personal circumstances require flexible access to learning opportunities, schedules and venues, e.g., home, workplace, community learning center, as well as traditional campus-based institutions.

Recommendations: Flexibility is Key! • Education Centered on Customer Service: Emphasis on Communication, Service and Support • Communication: • Communicating the different educational pathways or optionsto students andparents • Communicating the valueof the different educational options to parents andstudents • Actively help the customer decide what pathway may work best for them • Requirements Customer Satisfaction Assessment: • Discovering new student needs and potential solutions to those needs, and relay this information to program developers. e.g., Does the market need our products? Are they satisfied with the existing products? What new options do they need? • Support: • Resources for counselors and teachers to learn about and support the ePathways product delivery. (e.g. training and development; incentives) • Invest in Change Management Strategy!
