  2. Clean Water Act • Drafted in 1972 • Amended in 1977, 1981 and 1987 • National Act • Regulates discharge of pollutants into water and regulates quality standards of surface water. • EPA and its NPDES

  3. Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA or Superfund) • Drafted in 1980 • Amended in 1986 and 1990 • National • Regulates hazardous waste, hazardous waste issues and responds to hazardous waste spills and emergencies. Funded by taxes. • EPA

  4. Clean Air Act • Drafted in 1963 • Amended in 1965, 1970, 1977, and 1990 • National Act • The Clean Air Act is the first act that deals with controlling pollution. It also provides funds for federal air pollution research • National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) all implement the Clean Air Act.

  5. Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) • Drafted in 1974 • Amended in 1986 and 1996 • National Act • SDWA regulates America’s public drinking water. It has been amended to protect drinking water sources such as streams and lakes. • The EPA enforces the SDWA
