Short course in Undergraduate Clinical Supervision: The effect on personal and professional growth. AMS Schmutz, E Archer & M van Heusden (University of Stellenbosch) (elizea@sun.ac.za) BACKGROUND: The effect of the Short course in Undergraduate clinical supervision was evaluated in this study. The target group for this course is inter-professional supervisors. Most of these supervisors have little experience of adult education. WHAT WAS DONE: The study was done in 2010. The following data was obtained before and after the one day course; self assessment, videos of facilitation sessions, reflections of the students and interviews with the facilitators. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Self assessment questionnaire: supervisors rated themselves higher in competence after the course. Students reported positive attributes such as support and guidance after the course. TAKE HOME MESSAGE: The short course has an effect on the learning experiences of the students in the clinical setting as well as the professional growth of the supervisors.
