Speed • How fast or slow something moves. • Ex: Ms. McKinley’s Dodge Neon drives 70 mph down the 110 Fwy. • UNIT: distance unit divided by a time unit (ex: m/s, mi/h, km/h)
Velocity (Not the same as speed!) • Velocity tells how fast something is going AND in what direction • Change in Velocity can be due to: • Change in Speed • Change in Direction • Or Change in BOTH speed AND direction. • Example: Ms. McKinley’s Dodge Neon drives 70 mph NORTH on the 110 Fwy.
Acceleration • Change in VELOCITY • Can happen in 3 ways: • Speeding up (+) • Slowing Down (-) • Changing Direction
In Summary SPEED: change in POSITION over time VELOCITY: change in POSITION over time, including DIRECTION ACCELERATION: change in VELOCITY
