  2. The first miracle of Jesus John 2:11  Jesus performedthisfirstmiracle in Cana in Galilee; there he revealedhisglory, and hisdisciplesbelieved in him.

  3. John is the only Gospel that tell this story • John say:   ”In his disciples' presence Jesus performed many other miracles which are not written down in this book. But these have been written in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through your faith in him you may have life.” (John 20:30-31) and “Now, there are many other things that Jesus did. If they were all written down one by one, I suppose that the whole world could not hold the books that would be written.” (John 21:25)

  4. Was it really the first miracle? • This is the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Mark 1:1 • Jesus Heals a Man with an Unclean Spirit. (Mark 1:21-28, Luke 4:31-37) • Luke say: “And so, Your Excellency, because I have carefully studied all these matters from their beginning, I thought it would be good to write an orderly account for you. I do this so that you will know the full truth about everything which you have been taught.” (Luke 1:3-4)

Matthew: “Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the Good News about the Kingdom, and healing people who had all kinds of disease and sickness” (Matt 4:23) • Does it really matter if it was the first miracle or not? • John describes the background of the wedding story

John describe Jesus with a purpose in mind • The Gospel of John as a “spiritual” Gospel • Jesus first miracle was at a wedding • Wedding in Cana 12km from Nazareth • Jesus mother were there and His group were invited • The drinks were finished, but the party was still on • The talk between Jesus and His mother

  7. Mary and the servants • The 6 ritual washing jars each 100liter=600 • Jesus order the jars to be filled with water • Jesus ordered that some water be given to the man in charge of the feast • The water now turned into wine • The man in charge of the feast did not know what happened, but remarked on the quality • Jesus revealed His Glory and His disciples believed in Him

  8. Was it real wine? • What is the message in this?

  9. What does this say to us today? • Jesus identify with the needs of people • He can not be forced to do miracles, but if you listen to Him your miracle will come • With His disciples it motivates us to belief in Him
