  2. Concept Level Project Plan Project Name Compressor Part Fabrication and ReVamp Project Number P09452 Project Family Sustainable Technologies for the Global Marketplace Track Sustainable Products, Systems, and Technologies Track Start Term 20082 (Dependent on Compressor Status) End Term 20083 Faculty Guide Dr. Margaret Bailey (ME) -confirmed Faculty Consultant Dr. Mark Kempski (ME)- unconfirmed Primary Customer Dresser Rand Dr. Bailey RIT Mechanical Engineering Department

  3. Phase 0: PlanningMission Statement Product Description The P09452 Team will be asked for the following: Write procedures for: Installation of the Compressor Revamp of Compressor (If needed) Develop and install a user interface for compressor Make sure that proper electrical supplies are available for the compressor Ensure compressor has atmost 100psi exhaust pressure and 25HP motor power Make sure the compressor is safe for use in the given space. Make ready for future senior design teams and RIT students Key Business Goals The primary business goals of this product are to Safety and minimizing effects on the surrounding college environment are key goals for the installation and revamp. RIT and Dresser-Rand intend on using the revamped compressor for future projects of health monitoring concerning variable valve timing technology. The interface should provide a head start for future teams to successfully create a data acquisition system.

  4. Phase 0: PlanningMission Statement Primary Market The Primary Market is RIT Product is to be used in the college environment with minimal disturbances. Future Plans include generations to implement changes and create data acquisition system. Secondary Market Dresser-Rand Company Investigate technology and problems surrounding their product Use as a testing compressor for performance issue and enhancements. Assumptions and Constraints It is currently unknown whether the compressor being donated will require output pressure reduction and if it will be delivered with variable valve timing already installed. More information is need from Dresser-Rand before the objectives and scope of work can be finalized. A compressor without an ITAR designation will be donated by Dresser Rand. It will be in good condition when it is donated. The test environment will be used by the formula design team as well. We will be able to use P08452's work on N30 compressor to help us work faster with our design. Stakeholders Stakeholders in the design of our product include the following: Dresser Rand Dr. Bailey RIT Mechanical Engineering Department Senior Design Team

  5. Phase 0: PlanningStaffing Requirements Mechanical Engineers Snehapriya Rao, Alex Scarangella and Ed Budriss The Mechanical Engineering students will handle the ReVamp design. They will be responsible for CAD drawings, system modeling, frequency response, thermal, acoustic, vibration and structural analysis. Industrial and Systems Engineers Anna Cheung The Industrial Engineering student will design the lab layout so that work on the compressor revamp can be done smoothly if needed. Also she will be assisting with structural analysis and dealing with human interaction between team and Dresser Rand. Computer Engineers Edward Wolf The computer engineer will make sure the firmware on the compressor can “talk” to machines in the RIT labs. Also he will perform tasks such as getting electrical parts and sensors from vendors and analyzing Electrical Feed.
