PP3 US(A) side Power Supply UX side Status of Type IV cables • Type IV cables are delivered in double lengths with connectors installed at the PP3 end and pulled between the UX15 cavern and the US(A) halls • US side completed • USA side installation started this week • Delivery of harness has been very slow • Vacation and QA problems in the summer • Connectors quality • Delay of components delivery from CERN to company • Bobbins damage • Production stopped for 3 weeks • Delivery restored this week with expected rate of 150 double harness/week • Expected complete delivery of harnesses by the end of the year • Installation of type IV might be interrupted by installation of type ii/iii A.Ciocio - SCTSG
Mapping • Mapping/layout subject to frequent adjustements to accommodate changes in routing or discrepancies with original expected routing • Endcap mapping issue • In the present mapping, six PS crates from each cavern are shared between the two endcaps • The endcap interlock scheme requires four matrix cards per cavern • The full set of interlock signals from one quadrant will be connected to one matrix card • the present mapping may be accommodated by the interlock hardware by routing signals between matrix cards • PS channel skipping to better match the interlock modularity of 4 to the modularity of the cooling system • Revision of the DCS system to accommodate modules from multiple partitions within one PS crate A.Ciocio - SCTSG
US(A) racks A.Ciocio - SCTSG
In US15 • Cut cables and connectors on the power supply side installed in situ • First rack (200 cables/connectors) completed early in July • Work performed by SEDELEC (subcontract of KontaktSysteme that provides the double length cables - Many mistakes • ~15 connectors have been repaired (mechanical) • Several label mismatch still to be fixed • ~10 need serious repair (electrical) • They raised the cost significantly for future connector work • New Plan • TC help with connector attachment • Nicolas Massol joined TC in September. One of his tasks is to organize connector activity • Work with Petr Kubik (Prague) to discuss technical aspects and qualify samples made by other companies being contacted • Meanwhile all cables are being cut to some extra length and ~ all tooling has been purchased to make prototypes • Qualification of one company (CPE/Italy) in progress • Work might start soon • Plan for testing with cables plugged in PS crate • Prague is going to design feedtrough board A.Ciocio - SCTSG
Rack Scheme for PP3 A.Ciocio - SCTSG
Status of PP3 • Cables are plugged in a few dummy Patch Panels during installation to be placed in the right (final) position and are tightened to horizontal bars • Cables will have to be all removed from the current position and plugged in by groups/rows when the installation of the real PP3 will occur • Big shipment of rack railing, PP3 housing crates, horizontal bars has been received (827 Kg) • Ashley French currently at CERN has been dressing all the USA racks • First 100 PP3 units are under preparation • 60 units will arrive at CERN next week for burn-in and 40 will be burnt in at Melbourne • The hold up so far has been the HV inserts • Following a successful test, the company will be given the go-ahead for the remaining 4000 units. Expected production time is 2-3 weeks • We’ll work on a scheme for shipment that agrees with the schedule • Shaun Roe and Igor Ilyashenko with the help from Pamela Ferrari and Ewa Stanecka will set up testing and burn-in – Duration of tests to be decided • Ashley F. and Scott Moncrieff should arrive at CERN on 14 November and will stay for four weeks • Estimated installation of 200 units per day but more people will be needed to help on US side racks A.Ciocio - SCTSG
Testing • Tester designed and provided by Ljubljana (Gregor, Erik) • 2 Test box + 2 Laptops + test cables • Need upgrade of test cables which are decaying after so much use • Lots of problems lately • Test steps: • Cables are tested at reception (acceptance test) • After being pulled from UX15 to US(A)15 (uncut-double length) • After they are cut in the US side at connectors are installed • Shift planner (developed by D. Robinson) works very well for planning the activities and have people to sign up • http://www.hep.phy.cam.ac.uk/si-bin/sctworkplanner.cgi • (and contact me because of unexpected changing in rate delivery/testing problems) • What is needed to be able to take a shift: • take the safety training course (at the pompiers station) • make the access request on EDH • get your safety boots & helmet (or borrow them) A.Ciocio - SCTSG
Current Shift Counts per Institute • Institute Total Completed Pending • Prague 40 37 3 • Geneva 36 35 1 • Bergen 19 19 0 • Valencia 11 11 0 • UC Santa Cruz 10 9 1 • Wisconsin 9 9 0 • MPI 8 8 0 • CERN 7 7 0 • Ioffe 5 5 0 • Okayama 4 4 0 • Ljubljana 4 4 0 • LBL 3 3 0 • Kyoto 3 3 0 • UCL 2 2 0 • KEK 2 2 0 • Cracow 2 2 0 • Lancaster 1 1 0 A.Ciocio - SCTSG
Summary • Installation on US side completed • Cables delivered and tested • Cables routed and tested • Cables cut to extra length • Installation on USA side started • Delivery of double length harnesses restored • If rate of 150/w expected installation completion at the end of year unless interrupted by type ii/iii installation • Connector work • Qualification of company in progress • PP3 • First 100 unit will be at CERN soon (60 next week) • Remaining 4000 hopefully early in December • Installation of PP3 units • 100 in November – then gradually in December • Testing • Good presence of SCT collaborators – need to continue A.Ciocio - SCTSG
